Hot Tickets

Having been given twenty five free tickets for the production of Othello, starring Ewan McGregor, I was tempted to sell one or two when I heard how sought after they were. Of course, it was just a momentary thought and we all enjoyed the performance and the post show talk with Ewan (this bit particularly engaged the students and staff!). I was surprised to read this article as I felt that McGregor gave an energised and focused portrayal of Iago; on the whole I felt the production was well cast, particularly the leads. I am by no means a fan of Shakespearean plays (usually falling asleep), but I managed to last the distance of this show. I have seen some terrible shows in my time and have walked out of several; this one was by no means on a par with them.
IMHO, if you can get a ticket, it's worth a visit.

An evening at the Theatre

Our school runs an award scheme that recognises the effort, endeavour and achievement of young people. Each month students are nominated for the accolade; the winner receives £300 to spend on something school related. One of our Performing Arts students recently won and chose to spend the money on taking some of her classmates to the theatre. We had planned to make a real evening of it, leaving school, going for a meal and than heading for the theatre. However, we were so busy rehearsing for a dance showcase that takes place next week, that we left school with enough time to grab a sandwich before jumping on the tube and arriving at the theatre just in time for the show. I hadn't seen Les Miserables before and enjoyed the story of love and hope; I have to admit to nodding off momentarily, but I was very tired!

I have just been to see...

It's amazing.

I have seen it before and I would watch it again! Matthew Bourne's choreography is slick, witty and at times awesome. I just love the male chorus, their movement is absolutely breathtaking; down to the most minute detail, they are swanlike.

This was a school trip and my students absolutely loved it; believe me there are some harsh critics amongst the group! This really is an exciting piece of theatre, and for the time I was there I even forgot I was sick!

If you haven't seen it already and the opportunity arises, I can thoroughly recommend it.
