"Eh eh gurl, you put on li'l weight!"

I knew my Grandad was going to say that (well, words to that effect), when I saw the look he gave me as I walked into the room. He is over from Guyana and I haven't seen him since he was last here, early last year. "You could take a li'l run roun' de block" he said as he gave me a big hug and kiss! Whilst my Grandad wasn't being malicious, he certainly isn't going to win any awards for diplomacy!
But his observation of my weight gain is not news to me; I know I have put it on and I'm now working to get rid of it. I was pleasantly surprised to have returned from Egypt fractionally lighter; all that time in the pool paid off. It's now just a case of remaining motivated and as I'm sure many of you know, that can be difficult at times. I probably won't blog too much about this again; you'll be able to measure my success by the photos posted no longer being just shoulder up! I have a goal weight in mind, with my birthday/Christmas time as a target; there also smaller target dates along the way.
So BR you are not the only one...

My first 5k run!

Remember my trainers? Well I have been killing two birds with one stone recently and running on the treadmill at the gym with them.
Today I recorded my first 5K run and I was ecstatic; it took me just under 31 minutes. I was really proud of myself and rushed home to link to the NikePlus website to record my new achievement.
And wouldn't you know, some woman, somewhere in the world, has recorded a 5K run of just under 17 minutes! What! Was is steroid enhanced? Is that natural? Worst still, is that normal and am I really slow?
Oh gosh, I can feel my competitive side coming through...

My Personal Trainer

My jogging is really coming along now and I'm proud of the fact that I've been going regularly a few times a week since starting about two months ago. I'm still running for about twenty five minutes, but my speed has picked up so I'm covering more distance. Impressed by my commitment my SO bought me this little gadget and a new pair of trainers. The little 'personal trainer' fits into a slot in the base of the shoe and connects wirelessly to an iPod Nano (I don't have my own so at the moment I have to use my son's - if I continue to show determination maybe I'll get an iPod!). As I run details of my progress are tracked including distance covered, average speed and calories burned. You can get updates as you are running and when you reach certain milestones you get congratulatory messages - I had Lance Armstrong inform me that I'd done my furthest run today! Once the workout is complete I connect the iPod to my laptop and the details are stored in my account at the Nike Plus website. The site also has leaderboards, I haven't quite made it into any of the Top Tens but I'm working on it...

You're lucky I'm Sisterlocked!

I was at the gym today, happily working out on my favourite machine; I'd been on it for about five minutes when I felt a trickle of sweat on my scalp. I felt it again, this time a lot more; I touched my hair and then looked up at the ceiling, thinking there must be a leak in the roof. It happened once more before I realised what it was; one of my colleagues from work, who goes to the same gym, was standing behind me and pouring water onto my head! Of course I had a few choice words to say, but what struck me was that had this occurred in my pre-SL days, I would have drop kicked him (not that I'm a violent person, but it would have been "my hair!"); instead, I just kept on stepping...

Keep it yourself!

I went to the gym today, a long overdue visit. With being Ill, away and just plain busy I haven't really maintained my regular 3/4 times a week schedule this year. So, I arrive at the gym and head for the changing room to put my bag away. I walk in and WHOA, first thing I see is a naked woman blow drying her hair! What in the name of covering up is that all about? Now this isn't the first time this has happened, in fact I have had many encounters with females drying their hair and putting on their make up whilst stark flaming naked. The layout of the changing rooms means you have to pass the hair dryers and mirrors to get to the lockers.
I am no prude, but believe me , I have no desire to see how well or not so well these ladies exercise regimes are going - not in this highly graphic state! The gym provides fresh towels so why won't they use them?
I don't put my bits and pieces in their faces, so why should they put theirs in mine?
Rant over!

And reach, two, three, four...

I decided to do a gym test on my SL's today, I haven't been for over a week and with the prospect of a large Christmas dinner to eat I need to make some space! I put my hair in to fairly small plaits before going to bed last night and let them loose this morning. I'm not sure what I think about this style - my hair looks a bit sparse, although the picture doesn't really show this. I am pleased with the fact that you can't really see all of the parts; I had worried that I would look like a pin cushion when my SL's were completed!
I tied a bandana over the front half of my hair and let the curls come out of the back - not sure what my rational was for this but it looked the part. I did a good hour's workout and my hair survived - perhaps it was because of the bandana! One effect of the workout was that some of the curls dropped and some SL's are now back to being straight.
I intend to got to the gym everyday between now and Christmas Eve so I will monitor the effects on my hair - although to be honest I'm not sure what I'll be looking for!
