Twelve, Twenty-Four, Hut-Hut

I'm not exactly sure that these are the words said by American Football players, but that's what it always sounds like on the television! I'd be lying if I said I understood the game; but like thousands of others, I was very excited that it had come to London. The Miami Dolphins and New York Giants played at Wembley Stadium today; this was the first game (regular season) to be played outside of North America. Counted as a home fixture for the Dolphins, I understand that it left many of their fans reeling at not being able to see the game without crossing the Atlantic. I did take a look at it on the tv, but I'm afraid I didn't last the distance; it appears that I only like the sort of football that is played for 90 minutes!

Comfort on a plate

What on earth is going on with the England football team; today's result was so disappointing and very frustrating. To be honest, I wasn't convinced by the appointment of Steve McClaren as manager; he hasn't done much to make me think I was wrong. So now our progression into Euro 2008 rests on the outcomes of matches being played by other teams!
To cheer myself and the rest of the family up, I rustled up this pasta dish.
Following these instructions, I used tomatoes, yellow peppers, black olives, spinach and mozarella for the sauce; which, I stirred into penne pasta and topped with parmesan.
Easy peasy and very tasty!

Emirates Cup

We spent the afternoon at the Emirates Stadium watching the first annual Emirates Cup competition. The game that we, and most of the 60,000 spectators, really wanted to see was Arsenal V Inter Milan. My beloved team did not disappoint; they won the game(after being a goal down) and in turn the cup.
We finished a great day off with dinner at a sushi restaurant; Mmmmm.

Devastated

Henry leaving Arsenal

I heard rumblings of his imminent departure during the week, although it was denied by his agent. Last night it seemed more of a possibility and then it was confirmed today. I guess it was on the cards; last season wasn't a good one for him and hey, at 29 he's pushing on a bit (in footballing terms of course!). I don't think we'd have got £16million for him next year and let's not forget that football is very much a business.
But he will be missed and not only by Arsenal fans; he is an amazing player and not at all unpleasant on the eyes!

ARSENAL 1 BOLTON 1

I was there, in the flesh!

My first trip to see Arsenal play at the new Emirates Stadium and for the first 60 minutes I thought they were going to let me down. Bolton are our bogey team and they give us a hard time every time we play them. Going 0-1 down to them after 50 minutes was difficult to watch and we then had to wait a further 28 minutes for Kolo Toure to score the equaliser. In the final 12 minutes we had a few chances to seal the deal, but it wasn't to be and we must now play them again.
Many of my friends think my only interest in football relates to Thierry Henry, but honestly this isn't the case! I got into football about seven years ago when my eldest son took it up. I figured that if I were going to watch him play every week I should at least understand what it was all about. My SO and son were already ardent Arsenal supporters so it followed that I watched the same matches as them; that was it, I was hooked. There is something about football that unites people. The World Cup last year was great for that; we even set up a huge screen at work to watch the England V Trinidad match whilst eating roti and drinking rum punch! I love to watch football and try to do so as much as possible; I won't however be travelling up to Bolton to watch the replay, I'll view it from the comfort of my sofa - come on you Gunners!

Enough said!
