Sunday Styling IV

I achieved my anniversary style with a Softspike set and a hairtie. It had been my intention to wear my hair out, but today was one of hideous weather and I had to change my outdo to an updo. The set was far more successful this time and I managed to keep my hair on the curlers!

Sunday Styling II

My Sunday styling didn't quite go according to plan this week. It had been my intention to set my hair on Soft Spikes after washing and I actually gave it a good try. The trouble was that my locks wouldn't stay on the curlers; each time I thought I had a curl set, it would unravel. Now I have thought about this and my conclusion is that my hair was too wet (and possibly suffering from a little shrinkage). I think that at the length my hair is currently, my best bet is to put the Soft Spikes in while my hair is dry and then to give them a light spritz with water to help them set.
So this week's styling option has been the ....erm...very little styling option...otherwise known as the freestyle. I have been enhancing this look with hairbands and hairties; speaking of hairties, I have two new ones that I have to share with you soon.

Your hair looks nice...in that picture!

I was showing my sister and my cousin a few of my picture albums (because of course I only have a few!) this evening. My cousin commented that my hair looked nice in a few of the pictures and she wondered why I didn't have it like that more often. I guess I have just become lazy with my hair; now that I have cut it, it takes a lot more effort to style. I have long been an advocate of freestyling; but on reflection I have to agree with my cousin, at it's current length, my hair looks better with a little styling.
It's not as if I don't have the tools to do it; I have my softspikes, I have a growing collection of beautiful hairties and I have some great clips and headbands. I figure that as Sunday evening tends to be hair washing time, it could become hair washing and styling time; a softspike set (or if I'm pushed for time, plain old plaiting) will give my hair an 'I've made a bit of an effort' look for a few days.
Mmmm, we'll see how it goes; I'll keep you posted...

I set my hair on soft spikes last night; my hair was damp and I rolled all of my hair towards the back of my head. My main aim was for the ends of my hair to look neat, but I also wanted the curls to go in the same direction.

I chose this lovely shell hairtie (I'm not sure of the name) to keep my hair in place.

Second time around

In preparation for a family celebration at the weekend, I decided to give the soft spikes another try. I think I'm going to wear my hair up in a hairtie; I figured that this would help the ends to look a little neater and give the style more volume. This time I put the curlers in whilst my hair was dry and then gave a light Tea Tree Oil spritz when I'd finished. I found it quite hard to put them in this time due to the length of my hair; when I'd finished there were lots of stray locks poking out all over my head, which I had to re-roll. As soon as I took the curlers out this morning I knew I'd like the results more than the last time; the curls were a lot softer and easier to loosen and style. I'll probably set my hair again on Friday night to ensure that the curls are fresh for my up-do and to make sure that there are no stray locks!

(I tried to manipulate the picture to make my hair clearer; I might have gone a little too far!)

Soft Spikes - The Results

I was really excited when I was taking the curlers out(which was as easy as putting them in); I could feel the corkscrew curls and this confirmed that I had put them in properly.

I loosened the curls and loved the back

I quite liked the view from the side

But I didn't like the front! I think that if my hair were longer I would have really liked the results; but these tight curly do's just don't seem to suit my face. Now it could be due to a mistake that I made when putting the SoftSpikes in; any advice will be greatly received and tried out next weekend.

(Gosh, I do look miserable!)

I decided to put my hair up with a hairtie and I loved the look I got. The SS set seemed to give me so much volume and I could see a lot more definition in my locks; so all was not lost. I know that the curls will drop over the next few days and I'm sure I will be able to wear my hair out then.

Soft Spikes...

I finally gave in and ordered myself a set of Soft Spike curlers and they arrived earlier this week. I was a little unsure on how to use them, so I asked the Neurotic Hair Diva for some help. Both Brunsli and Brenda provided me with detailed advice on how to use them - Thank You! A little scared of getting things wrong I decided to wait until the weekend to try them out; so, here we are...

I washed my hair, towel dried and then put the curlers in. I did start off by counting out 10 locks for each one, but quickly grew tired of this and guesstimated the rest. I used about 40 of the curlers, which are the small ones; I was surprised at how easy they were to put in. It took me about 35 minutes to put them in and I looked like Medusa by the end of it!

Results to follow tomorrow...
