Am I leaving it too long?

I had my first retightening just before reaching the one month mark. My next appointment is in three weeks time and this means I will have gone 7 weeks between sessions. The trouble is I wonder if I will be leaving it too long. At the moment I feel as though my roots are starting to look a little, well, messy. If I press my hands down on my hair it feels spongy and it sort of gives a little bounce back! I have also found that my hair drops a lot faster, although I don't think this is helped by my job.

Looking at the pictures now, my hair doesn't seem to look that bad. Maybe I'm just tired or am I having a not so good hair day?
What do you think, is it messy? or is it about right for four weeks after tightening?

The length between retightenings is usually best determined by talking with your consultant. It really varies. You need to consider things like how fast your hair grows and the amount of slippage you normally have between retightenings. Some women go 8 weeks and some go 4. You might also want to consider how long it takes to retighten. For example If you go 7 weeks and it takes 6 hours but if you go 5 weeks and it only take 3 hours. You may then might want to go every 5 weeks. I'm sure you and your consultant will work out a schedule that works best for your hair. And then there is always the consultant's schedule to consider. If their schedule fills up really fast you may want to book a couple of appointments well in advance.

I'm on a 4-5 week schedule and yous looks similar to mine at this point. I like a neat appearance to my locks, but don't really like the fresh parts showing. I usually like my hair best when I wash it about 2 weeks after a retightening until the point it's time to retighten. I agree with QuietSpirit, but also make sure you're not getting it tightened to the point where there's stress or pulling in an effort to keep it neater for a longer period.

QuietSpirit and Brenda - Thank you for your words of wisdom.
My hair grows quite quickly but I do think I have experienced some slippage at the back. I teach quite a lot of dance and I don't think all the sweating has helped!
I can't change this appointment as I am going away next weekend for a week.

I hope to be able to maintain my own hair eventually. Brenda, do you do your hair as and when or do you set aside a day/evening to retighten?

I know what you mean about the length of time between sessions. I missed my 6 week appt and went in after 8.. I felt like my hair was unruly and wouldn't do what I wanted it to do.

Your hair is growing and looks good! If your hair grows really fast you may want to get retightened every 5-6 weeks.

I usually try to stay on a 4-5 week schedule, but I'm going into week 6 as I type. But I've been so busy with helping my kids with school projects that I haven't had the time and inclination. Also, I do my daughter's hair, usually the week before I do mine, and I haven't gotten to her yet. I refuse to do my own before I do hers. It takes me about 4 nights to do mine as my arms get tired, but I'm usually in no rush and it gets done eventually

Kathryn - Thanks so much; I really enjoy blogging! Oh my niece, I saw her again at the weekend and she is just so sweet :-) The more I read other people's blogs, the more I am determined to be able to maintain my own hair - good on you for doing yours.

Meikmeika - Thanks for the compliment :-) I am really feeling that my hair needs doing! This time I'm going to have to ride it out. I think I will be looking at a 5-6 week schedule.

Brenda - I think I'll have to speak to you about how to go about doing my own hair...
